Apricorn-UK Headquarters-The Reality of the US Data and Information Markets-No Security!

Unit 7 Discussion 1 Response 2 Zwick

Response from: Miss. Bayo Elizabeth Cary, AA, BA, MLIS

Headquartered in Poway, California, Apricorn provides secure

storage innovations to the most prominent global

companies in the categories of finance, healthcare, education, and

government. Now with an EMEA office

headquartered in the UK, Apricorn products have become the standard

for myriad data security strategies worldwide. (M2 PressWire, Apricorn, 2017, p. 4)

Apricorn, a company, with headquarters in the UK, and offices in California, has begun to question and challenge US computer and data collecting companies, because of the blatent disregard, that America companies show, for information security (M2 PressWire, Apricorn, 2017, p. 1). Data safety and security, is not a primary concern, of US information handlers. US companies, are collecting a significant amount, of demographic, and other private information, from consumers, clients, and patients.

The US companies, that are collecting mass amounts, of personal information, are not exhibiting appropriate, and legally required concerns, regarding protection, of the private, and confidential data, and information. The legally required, compliance issues, for personal and confidential information, collected by US companies, are intentionally, left vulnerable, to data breaches:

Despite some having defined security policies for mobile working, nearly 7 in 10 (68 per cent) say they cannot be certain that their data is adequately secured when employees work remotely or on mobile devices. Encryption is the most viable option for organisations to protect valuable data outside of the corporate network, whilst also balancing control and accessibility. However, only a third of those surveyed say they enforce hardware and software encryption of their data, and 12 per cent do not have any policy at all regarding encryption for data that is taken away from the office. (M2 PressWire, Apricorn, p. 2)

Other countries, around the world-and not just other Western countries, are expressing sincere concerns, regarding the American work environment ethos, that intentionally leaves PII information, in a precarious position-available, for almost anyone to steal.

The new concept, a BYOD working environment, is already here, and is already accepted, as a new American, working environment. BYOD, working environment, is never going to be a safe situation, for any PII data, or information. Personal electronic devices, are accessed, and used at work, and then, the very same-private and confidential information, is accessed again, when individuals, leave their work places:

‘Whilst data protection is not a straightforward task, companies (particularly those in the private sector) are trusted by their customers to follow basic best practices. Despite this, 38 per cent say they have no control over where company data goes and where it is stored. Organisational struggles with enforcing data protection regulations and compliance standards are putting confidential data at risk,’ said Jon Fielding, Managing Director, Apricorn EMEA. ‘The repercussions associated with a data breach are huge, both in terms of financial and

reputational damage. Regulations are put in place to protect the data, its owner and the company responsible for it,’ he added.

                                                                     (M2 PressWire, Apricorn, 2017, p. 2)

In my opinion, other countries around the world, will have to begin, to make informed decisions, about: writing software, building computers, and diverting business, away from America. America, is an anti-utopian, business, and working environment, that supports: Intl terror.

When, other countries, decide to conduct business, and increase money flows, into the US-then, factually, those countries, are also engaging, in unethical Intl terror business and operations:

When asked about the greatest security risk to their organisation in 2017, half of respondents (51 per cent) cited outdated software, followed by employees (48 per cent), and the cloud (40 per cent) among their top risks. More than a third of those surveyed said BYOD and mobile working were among the biggest liabilities. (M2 PessWire, Apricorn, 2017, p. 2)

Responsible investing, and spending-takes some investigation, into: what a company does, and how money is spent-however, when an entire government, and country, illegally supports: Intl terror, i.e., as is the case with America-then, then entire financial investment, and markets, must be avoided, at all costs.
