Could Social Networking Ruin US Data Conservation?
Draft an e-mail for the signature of
your boss, Darcy M. Diamond, Director, Network Defense. Your message should
remind all employees about the existing social networking policy and tactfully
yet clearly announce the end of Facebook use at the office. The prohibition is
effective immediately. Your message should also warn about the pitfalls of
oversharing online.

RE: New Social Networking Policy Effective Immediately-
No On/Off the Job Facebook
To Network Defense Staff:
Permanent Prohibition to Online Social Networking at the
Workplace:
It has been brought to my
attention, that some employees, are sharing their personal lives, far too
generously-both: in their free time, and at work, on the popular social
networking website: Facebook. The Network Defense company, has a reputation to
protect, and the after-hours activities, of some employees, are not
appropriate, and being readily shared, on Facebook-in association, with the:
Network Defense company. An IT company assumes risks, when posting marketing
information online, in association, with various online social networking
websites-those risks, must be managed and controlled, to limit any extreme
circumstances, that could lead to unwelcome, and unwanted litigation (Anonymous,
2011, p. 23).
Private Home Use of Online Social Networking Websites:
Issues pertaining, to online social networking, can easily be deterred
at work, however, when the long work day is over-employees usually have a
right, to log-online to Facebook-when they finally get home (Anonymous, 2001,
p. 23). I think that this is a relatively new idea-limiting the use, of online
social networking, by employees. (For me, it would be too restrictive, a work
environment for me, if my employer, were to inform me, that I was no longer
permitted-not even in my private, and free time at home, to log-on, to my
favorite online social networking website-which, happens to be: Twitter.)
Employees at Network Defense, will have to think hard, and make a difficult
choice-either, discontinue all online social networking, because the
conversations are embarrassing to the company-or, decide to quit, and to work
elsewhere.
Security Breach Threats Continue to Surface from Online Social
Networking Websites:
In addition, to concerns regarding the reputation, of any given company,
there are security breach issues, related to online cyber threats, that will
diminish, after online social networking from the workplace-has be completely
halted: malware, phishing, viruses, worms, etc. (Anonymous, 2011, p. 23). The
company, must weigh, the benefits, against the risks, when deciding, what type
of online activities, should occur, in the workplace, and when reflecting upon,
how the after-hours, online posts to Facebook-from employees-affect the company
image.
However-although, the new policy seems stringent, and Network Defense,
does has some genuine concerns, about employees going: “underground,” to
continue to post to Facebook-against strong warnings, from upper management
(Anonymous, 2011, p. 23). We, at: Network Defense, rest assured, that the new:
“No Facebook,” policy, will do the company-far more good, than harm. Thank you,
for your continued support, and interest-regarding all matters pertinent, to:
the success, and the betterment, of: Network Defenses, LLC.
