US INtelligence: "A Theory of Deception," Feel Safe? It's All Lies!

US
Banking: PayPal Money-Online Transactions-Stolen: “Online Money-Pit Business:”
As
the original guardian of the Nation's financial payment systems, the Secret
Service has a long history of protecting American consumers, industries and
financial institutions. Over the last two decades, the Secret Service's
statutory authorities have been reinforced to include access device fraud (18
USC [Sec.]1029), which includes credit and debit card fraud. The Secret Service
also has concurrent jurisdiction with other law enforcement agencies for
identity theft (18 USC [Sec.]1028), computer fraud
(18 USC [Sec.]1030), and bank fraud (18 USC [Sec.]1344). (Congressional Documents
and Publications, 2011, p. 1)
If money is exchanging hands, then you have a
business. However, if you are online, and responding to inquiry, and you are sending
out an analysis of threats, without receiving a financial gratitude-then, you
are volunteering. I understand, that it is important, in the security, and IT
forensics industry, to be able to prepare a full report, of: “threats,” that
are affecting your customers, and the could potentially affect your customers.
However, in-my-opinion, it is too difficult, to conduct all services, with
computer networks, online, and through email communications.
Is
US Secret Service Really Fighting Cyber-Crime-I Do Not Think So-Sometimes, Numbers
Do Lie:
In 2010, the Secret Service's unique multifaceted approach
to combating cyber crime led to the arrest of over 1,200 suspects for cyber
crime related violations and the examination of 867 terabytes of data. To put
it in perspective, that is nearly four times the amount of data collected in
the archives of the Library of Congress n1. These investigations involved over
$500 million in actual fraud loss and prevented approximately $7 billion in
additional losses. As a result of our efforts, the Secret Service is recognized
worldwide for our innovative approaches to detecting, investigating and
preventing cyber crimes. (Congressional Documents and Publications,
2011, p. 1)
US Secret Service, and other law enforcement groups, are
well-aware of the risks associated, with online business, and financial transactions-money
loss, and stolen, through fraudulent transactions, and security breaches, occur
every day-the numbers for corrective measures, are positive, however-there are no
indications, of change, or even-of punitive damages.
I am not trained, specifically, for computer
repairs, or systems analysis. However, I have, in-the-past, needed help, with
my computers, when: I lost access, or when-the system hard drive, burned-out,
or, when, the information on the computer, had been converted, to an unusual
computer language. I needed to take the physical computer, to a physical
location, for a computer technician, to physically, take the structure apart,
for a complete review. I am not comfortable, with computer boarding, for IT and
security networks support-is anything safe?
It
Is Not Safe To: Buy, Sell, or Trade Online-US Banking, is at Risk:
Advances in computer technology
and greater access to personal information via the Internet have created a
marketplace for transnational cyber criminals to share stolen information and
criminal methodologies. As a result, the Secret Service has observed a marked
increase in the quality, quantity and complexity of cyber crimes targeting
private industry and critical infrastructure. (Congressional Documents and Publications,
2011, p. 1)
Being aware, of all of the problems, faced, by an IT professional,
posed by a vulnerable world, of online financial transactions, has not led to a
remedy. As an IT student, I spend many hours, online, and working on:
computers, servers, and laptops. The work,
has exposed me, to a-number-of problems related, to: privacy, and to computer networking
failures, related to the IT profession. Email, is not reliable. PayPal, is not
reliable either. I think that it is a fallacy, of thinking, to consider the possibility,
of reviewing, and controlling-everything, said online, about a company. When
people post comments online, some are honest, and some are not. When a customer
uses your services, if all-of-your interactions are online, you will not
receive payments, for some of your services.
Knowing
the Details, of the Nature of the Crimes Online, Has Been of No Help-Whatsoever:
These crimes include network intrusions, hacking attacks,
development and use of malicious software, and account takeovers leading to
significant data breaches affecting
every sector of the world economy. As large companies have adopted more sophisticated
protections against cyber-crime, criminals have adapted as well by increasing
their attacks against small and medium-sized businesses, banks, and data
processors. (Congressional Documents and Publications, 2011, p. 1)
Emails will be lost, and PayPal steals. I think, limiting
your business, interactions, to all online correspondence, is damaging, to any
business anywhere-including Amazon.com. Customers, need a store. Transactions,
need to happen in person-at least, sometimes.
Finding
Enough Evidence to Convict, In Cases of Cyber-Crimes, Is Not That Difficult:
The
increasing level of collaboration among cyber-criminals raises both the
complexity of investigating these cases and the level of potential harm to
companies and individuals. For example, illicit Internet carding portals allow
criminals to traffic stolen information in bulk quantities globally. These
portals, or "carding forums," operate like online bazaars where
criminals converge to trade personal financial data and cyber-tools of the
trade. The websites vary in size; some of these criminal forums are limited to
a few hundred members while others boast memberships of tens of thousands of
users. (Congressional
Documents and Publications, 2011, p. 1)
Concluding
Comments: The Human Being, and The Nature of Caring:
Taking the person, and the personal interactions, out of,
the business, is a mistake-you are subtracting, the importance of being human,
and objectifying. When, all-of-your communications, and interactions, are based
on computers, then, real human beings, are treated like inhuman, machines.
